Bunmi, I think this blog is great. You do a great job of inserting yourself and your experience in your writing, and it adds a lot. I like the posts ‘The simple things,’ “Creative minds’ and ‘Conflict Zones’ are the best, and they were written in this way. I think you should try to do as much as you can in that style.
On the flip side, I found some more mundane things - misspellings, links that didn’t work. It’s Barack Obama, not Barak. ‘Creative minds…’ has some misspellings and broken links. I like ‘Slavery’ but the lead is a little confusing and could use some more explanation or some linkage. I think overall, you could use more links. Some of your posts make great use of it, some don’t. ‘Loss of African Spirituality’ has too much quote.
I like the design of your site. Not a big fan of white on black… I would maybe change the font color to white to make it a little more legible (its a little gray now).
Overall the writing is good and the topic is very interesting - I feel like I’m nit-picking with some stuff. Good job.
Bunmi, your blog is really interesting. I know very little about Africa and found your personal voice and narrative added depth to the stories you tell and information you provide. In your posts African Issues and The Simple Things I think your voice and descriptions are particularly compelling. I like the detail of your observation of the immigrants in the Museum.
Some suggestions. Some of your posts are long and maybe assumptive that the reader knows the subjects you discuss fairly well. I do not know much about African issues and need a little more background to place your stories in context. For example, the Conflict Zones post could be several different posts that define the conflicts in each country. Kind of like you did for Madagascar. Just a suggestion.
I like you sight design but I really have a hard time reading white on black. The orange is actually easier for me to read. Overall I think it is a great blog.
